Help in Chosing the Software for Reporting Services

Hi All,

I have downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 from the following link

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/

This I did after hearing Advanced Services provide Reporting Services tool with basic functionalities. After installion I am not able to find the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. Also there is no provision for installing the Reporting Services.

I already have Visual Studio Express installed.

Could someone tell me what else to download? Also it is asking for another software to be downloaded along with the existing one.

Regards

Karthik

In Visual Studio, when you try and create new projects, do you see a folder called "business intelligence"?|||

I am using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition not Visual Studio. I don't have that option.

I was browsing through many other but couldn't understand clearly what is going wrong. Could you tell me the pre-requisites required for the installation?

|||http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/usingssrswithsqlexpress.mspx|||

Thanks for the link...

After lot of searching I figured out the option to install Reporting Services would not appear till IIS is installed. After doing this it is working fine now.

Could you please let me know if installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 is possible in Vista Home Basic. Nowhere it is clearly explained if it can be done or not.

Help for 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION'

Hi,
I have a linked server on a win2000 server SQL Server which is pointing to
Analyis Services server on another machine. We are using OPENQUERY to run
drillthroughs on the OLAP server from a stored procedure in the sql server.
At one time when several users were doing multiple drillthrough using the
linked server, each returning large amounts of data, we got an exception and
the sql server crashed. We badly need help for this as it happened in
production.
The dump that I got from the dba is pasted below:

Thanks for your help,
JGPYour problem is significantly larger than what newsgroup help can usually
offer. I strongly suggest opening a case with Microsoft Product Support
Services. If you don't have an agreement with them, I believe it is $245
per incident. They have the tools to analyze your crash and make
recommendations on how to avoid such a condition
in the future.

In VS2005, Create an empty solution, then in this solution add a new
project.
Under project types you should see "Business Intelligence Projects"
under project types.
Select this, then you can select "Report Server Project"
You can then create your reports and data sources as required, and
deploy to your report server.|||Have you installed the client tools? If you installed SQL 2005 on your
computer that does not install the client tools. You have to run setup
separately for that.
If you installed the client tools prior to VS 2005 then you need to install
them again.

Help : I Can't Re-installed RS !

I uninstalled Reporting Services SP1 from the development environment.
My Database is on a distant Server.
I want to re-install Reporting Service and I have this message when I select
my Report Server Database (the same as before the uninstal) : "The Report
Server Database is a different version and cannot be used for this
installation."
Can you help me ?First you need to install RS and point to an new DB. After the install
upgrade RS to SP1. Once this is done you will need to run RSConfig to point
to the old DB. If you saved off your Symmetric key you will want to reapply
it using rskeymgmt.exe. If you did not you will need to run
rskeymgmt.exe -d. Doing this will delete all the encrypted content, meaning
you will have to reenter all of your report credentials.

I don't use your method because RS has allready uninstalled and so I can't
save my key.
I delete from my SQL Server the DataBase Report and the database
ReportserverTempDB. I run RS install, I select my SQL Server and I can
continu running the install.
I can deploy my reports so now ... all is good ...

included in the configuration for a Networked printer. This does not appear
to be true. All that is necessary here is that the name be exactly the
same (exact case also) as what is defined in the Control Panel for the
computer
on which the Report Server is running.

Help ! Error after (windows update) of .NET Framework

Hi all,
today i updated my .NET framework to 1.1 SP 1 (via windows update).
After than, my reporting services failed with the error key
"rsReportServerDisabled".
I have just a german full error message, but it is something with
"...decode symetric key ...". I use Win XP Professional as operating system.
Please apologize my english.
Thank your help in advance.
ThomasMost likely the ASP.NET account got reset. If you have the encryption key
saved, you can restore it using rskeymgmt. If not, you will need to reset
the encryption via rskeymgmt -d.

to restore the encryption key. After resetting the connection string, you
just need to do an rsactivate -r -c and things will start working again.

Help - Multi values dimensions ?

Hello all
we developped a software with a data warehouse in sql server, without using
analysis services, and following the star design.
we are working with data about transactions, with caracteristics modeled in
dimensions. in general each transaction has one single value for each
caracteristic, but for one, it may have more than one or no value.
some solution we thought about:
-we use comma separated IDs (string) in the dimension in the fact table, but
it would hurt indexing
-or store the IDs in a separate table, but each query will require a join
my question is what is the best way to implement this feature ?
thank you for your help
its a standard "n-n" relationship.
1 caracteristic, can have 0 to N transacions
1 transaction can have 0 to N caracteristic
So, you'll have 3 tables:
Caracteristics 1 - n CaractToTransac n - 1 Transactions
The CaractToTransac table contain only 2 columns:
CaracteristicID and TransactionID
(maybe you can add a column called "sequence" if the order of your
caracteristics is important for you)
Now you have multi caracteristics for each transaction.

Help - Loosing my Sanity

We are having a problem with our services (mainly SQL server) in that they loose/forget their passwords. So, even though the service is set to start automatically, it can't do to a logon failure. We must type over the password and then are able to start
the service. This is happening on multiple configurations.
Windows 2000 Advanced, SP2 & 3, SQL Server 2000
Windows 2000 Standard, SP4, SQL Server 2000
SQL Server 2000 is at SP3 with all the latest patches and fixes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked the settings for the account itself? Make
sure the account is set up so that Password never expires is
selected and Must change password at next login is not

HELP - Designing a Subscripion System for a Group of Reports

We're developing an ASP.NET 2.0 (C#) application that will act as a
front-end to SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. We have an interesting
requirement that [we believe] can't be solved using RS out-of-the-box. So,
I'm writing today to get some ideas on possible solutions.
The requirement is that the app. needs to support, what we're calling, a
report group. A report group is simply a group of similar reports that can
be executed as a single unit (instead of having to execute each report
individually). This was not too bad to solve. We simply created our own
database tables that track which report group contains which reports.
The tricky part is that we now have to figure out a way to create a
subscription that executes the report group (thereby executing each
individual report in the report group automatically). Creating a
subscription for a single report is fairly straightforward, but it appears
this concept of a report group is not a part of RS.
Does anyone out there have any good ideas/suggestions on how we can
implement such functionality?
The best thought we have so far is to write another application that manages
the execution of each report in a report group. So, the SQL Server 2005 job
would call this additional little application, this additional app. would
lookup which reports are in the report group, and then it would loop through
all the reports and execute them one-by-one. But, this has some issues-like
how do we handle the output type (PDF, Excel, etc.) and how do we handle the
destination (e-mail, printer, etc.) of each report. Plus, it seems like we
would be somewhat reinventing the wheel as far as subscriptions go.
Thanks. Why aren't you using one master report with all the other reports as
sub-reports?

individual subscriptions for each report but they would all start
firing at the same scheduled time.

need a groupby, like
10 Energy Energy Energy
10 Energy Energy Oil & Gas
15 Materials Materials Chemicals
15 Materials Materials Construction Materials
...........................
...........................
In this case you need to try a group by,
SELECT 1,2,3,SUM(ANY VALUE FEILD) FROM TABLE
GROUP BY 1,2,3
Not sure if this is what you what, if not give more details like tbale
structure and optut you needed in good format...
Thanks,

Newsgroup posters/readers dont handle long lines/ line breaks very well, so
anything longer than 70 or 80 characters becomes an unreadable mess.
Also, post your table DDL, and try to explain what you want with words, in
addition to visuals.

That's just presentational stuff. It is called "banding" in reports and
even the most basic reporting tool will do it for you. There isn't much
cause to do it in SQL and although it is certainly possible it will be
needlessly complex to do and won't perform well.

Whenever possible please post enough code to reproduce your problem.
Including CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements usually helps.
State what version of SQL Server you are using and specify the content
of any error messages.

Hm, maybe you should try an ADO newsgroup. I've read about MS Data Shape,
but I should probably not suggest solutions for it...
