In the SQL error log I found

Any ideas?
ThanksHi,
I was having this exact same problem, here is what resolved this issue
for me:
1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\"sql startup account"\Application
Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-21.....
(where "sql startup account" should be the name of your startup account
for sql server")
2 Backup and then delete any files in the S-1-5-21etcetc folder. (but
don't delete the folder)
3. Restart SQL Server.

HELP - Cannot connect to SQL Server 2005 Express

I've installed the SQL Server 2005 Express and also the MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005 Express
But when i load the latter and try to connect to my database I get the below error message.

TITLE: Connect to Server

Cannot connect to DEVCOMP\SQLEXPRESS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=-1&LinkId=20476
Further Details:

Further to the above error me, I got the following when I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections"

TITLE: Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections - localhost
-
Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again.
-
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
[C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum\9.0.242.0__89845dcd8080cc91\Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum.dll] InternalsVisibleTo declarations cannot have a version, culture, public key token, or processor architecture specified. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

|||Check to see if the SQL Server Express service is started.

Also, you may want to change the network settings to accept TCP/IP and remote connections. Check out this blog entry:

Let me know if this doesn't fix your problem.

The remote connectivity is disabled by default. You can activate it using the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration SQLSAC.EXE.

If localhost is not known, then either your hosts. file is corrupt or blocked by a firewall (for any tests, deactivate the local firewall temporarily). You can use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.

The hosts file is located in your windows directory under

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

I have checked out the blog and performed all the steps. I have restarted the services and still no luck.

I am a newbie to webdev so started with the sample personal website. I followed the instructions to the letter but cant get past Ctrl-F5 to initialize without the error.

Where do I goto from here?

Help - Can Execute return a value?

Hello
I'm relatively new to SQL Server/T-SQL and find myself stuck with this
problem:
I need to do something like this:
Declare @.someValue NVarchar(100)
Declare @.someFunction Varchar(100)
--
-- Assign value to @.someValue from a Cursor
--
--
-- Assign name of the function to @.someFunction from a Cursor
--
Declare @.ret NVarchar(100)
Execute 'Select @.ret = ' + @.someFunc + '(''' + @.someValue + ''')'
I expect the last Execute statement to leave the return value from the
function in @.ret.
What I get is
Must declare the variable '@.ret'.
I have also tried
Execute sp_ExecuteSQL 'Select @.ret = ' + @.someFunc + '(''' +
@.someValue + ''')'
with the same result.
Any help with making this work or other ways of doing this will be very
much appreciated!
TIA.
Vamsi.Vamsi,
Use sp_executesql.
Declare @.ret NVarchar(100)
declare @.sql nvarchar(4000)
set @.sql = N'Select @.ret = ' + @.someFunc + '(''' + @.someValue + ''')'
exec sp_executesql @.sql, N'@.ret NVarchar(100) output', @.ret output
print @.ret

For more details on sp_executesql and dynamic SQL in general, see
an article on my web site: http://www.sommarskog.se/dynamic_sql.html.
By the way, if you are new to T-SQL, dynamic SQL is probably not where
you should start.

As for starting with dynamic SQL, I really don't have a choice :-) I
need to be able to run validations and formatting on type-less text
data that should be "interpreted" to be of datatypes defined in a
metadata repository (SQL Server tables) and satisfying validations
(reg. expressions, TSQL functions/SPs, etc) specified in the same
repository.
Running these on the app. server turned out to be way too inefficient
and cumbursome; hence the dynamic SQL. And although I'm more
experienced with PL/SQL, the powers that be insist on using SQL Server
I thank you for the input.
